Choosing where to live is one of the most important decisions when moving to Madrid. The area shapes your daily life: how long it takes to get to class, the atmosphere around you and how much you pay in rent. In this guide we review the three areas most in demand among international students and young professionals.

Salamanca district: elegance and safety

It is the most exclusive area in Madrid: wide streets, stately buildings and a sense of safety that is hard to match. Ideal if you are after peace and quiet, good metro links and being close to first-rate shops and cafés. Rent is higher, but the quality of life makes up for it.

Chamberí: the young professionals favourite

Chamberí blends authentic Madrid character with a vibrant, young atmosphere. Local markets, terraces and an active social life make it one of the areas with the most personality. It is very well connected and somewhat more affordable than Salamanca.

Living in Chamberí is feeling the real Madrid: neighbours who greet you, markets full of life and everything a short walk away.

Moncloa: close to the university campus

If you study at the Complutense or Polytechnic University, Moncloa is your area. It is right next to the Ciudad Universitaria, with a lively student scene and more moderate prices. Perfect for anyone who values walking to class and a tighter budget.

How to choose based on your profile

  • You prioritise safety and quiet: Salamanca is your best option.
  • You want atmosphere and authentic neighbourhood life: go for Chamberí.
  • You want to be near campus and keep costs down: Moncloa fits.

At Adalup we have verified spaces in all three areas, all with Wi-Fi, cleaning and bills included. If you are unsure which one suits you, our team will help you decide with no commitment.
